I have realized, through my Religions class, and then it hit
me later in a song, that to go after and reach the American Dream would mean to
reject everything Christ stands for.
Todd Agnew says it best in his song "My Jesus"
from his album 'Reflections of Something'.
Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
Where did this idea of achieving security in my life come from? Certainly not in the way Jesus teaches me to live!
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?
If I am to imitate Christ as He calls me to, I have to lay down all of my own selfish desires and take Him seriously! What kind of attitude do I have toward living like Jesus did?
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side, or fall down and worship at His holy feet?
Most important, I believe, is that question above. What
would I do if I saw an ugly, dirty, bleeding, ragged man? How would I receive Jesus
if he were living today and looked as he did then? I would like to say that I
would worship Him as he walked past me, but I feel like I would be ashamed to
even be in the same room with Him. Not because I'm ashamed of Him, but I'm
ashamed of my own shortcomings and lack of faith in Him.
Here's just a little something for you to think about as you
live your American life.
Question of the Blog:
What
would YOU do if you met the filthy Jesus on the street? Think about that
before you answer, whether you put your response here or in your prayers.
Have Blessed Day!
